We’ve all heard about the incredible effect that being outdoors can have on our mental health and wellbeing. Walking in public parks and forests are a great way to get out, but if you’re stuck indoors, we have some good news, according to an article in the latest ‘Happiful’ Magazine.
Research from the University Medical Centre in the Netherlands, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, has found that just looking at photos of greenery can have the same effect on us as actually being out in nature.
The researchers found that, after looking at the photos, participants’ stress levels were lowered thanks to their parasympathetic nervous system – which controls our rest function – being triggered.
So if you don’t get a chance to get outside, or are looking for ways to brighten up your work space, this tip could be an easy way to bring the benefits of the natural world indoors.
